The Players Speak for DSCL Open National Tennis Championship
   

Purav Raja (December 7, 1985; Mumbai): Coached by Sandeep Kirtane and trains at Mumbai Gymkhana. Reached the semifinals of singles in the ITF Satellite circuit. Andre Agassi is his idol.
Won the national championship for the first time. It was a double crown as the won the doubles title as well with Sandeep Kirtane. Beat the favourite Vishnu Vardhan in four sets in the singles final that stretched to nearly four hours. In due course of time expects sponsors to support his future traveling across the globe.

   

Vishnu Vardhan (July 27, 1987; Hyderabad): Trains at the Power Tennis Centre in Hyderabad with coach C. V. Nagaraj. Is part of the AITA programme and train with coaches Gajendra Singh and T. Chandrasekaran.
Broke the quarterfinals jinx as he had lost in a series of ITF Satellite tournaments in that round. Made his maiden final appearance in the DSCL National tennis championship. Has a strong build, solid game and a good attitude to be a top class player for the country.

   

Isha Lakhani (August 29, 1985; Mumbai): Student of Rizvi College, Mumbai. Recently shifted to training in Bangalore with coaches Jonathan Stubbs and M. Balachandran.
Won the DSCL National championship singles title for the third time. Had won earlier in 2002 and 2005. She was the last Indian player to beat Sania Mirza, and did so in three sets in a $25,000 tournament in Mumbai. Aspires to be in top 50 women’s singles within two years. Needs finance and traveling support.

   

Sandhya Nagaraj (August 30, 1988; Chennai): Is pursuing her education from the National Open School of the Chennai University. Trains at the High Performance Tennis Centre in Bangalore with coaches Jonathan Stubbs and M. Balachandran.
Won the singles and doubles titles in an ITF $ 10, 000 women’s tournament in Spain recently. Also made the singles final of a similar tournament in Delhi this season. Qualified and reached the quarterfinals of a $ 25, 000 ITF women’s tournament in Italy. Martina Hingis of Switzerland is her idol. Aspires to give her best and expects sponsors to support her.

   

Sriram Balaji (March 18, 1990; Coimbatore): Class XII student of Perks Matriculation High School, Combatore.  Trains at Perk’s Tennis Academy. coached by R. Elango and Hiten Joshi.
Has represented India four times in under-12 Nike Junior tournament in South Africa, competed two times in Australia in under-14 and once in Malaysia under-16. Has played well against top players like Aqeel Khan of Pakistan in the ITF Satellite men’s circuit. Goal is to crack the top 100 ranking in singles. Admires Lleyton Hewitt.

   

Fariz Mohammed (March 25, 1988: Chennai): Second year student of New College, Chennai. Trains at St. Bede’s Academy. Coached by Srikant Willson. He was runners up at the Adidas National junior championship in Chennai as well. Pete Sampras is his idol. Aims to represent India in Davis Cup and also be in the top 50 in men’s singles. Expects to get good sponsors soon.

   

Kyra Shroff (October 17, 1992, Bangalore ): A ninth standard student of St. Anne’s Fort School. Trains at the Mahesh Bhupathi Tennis Academy (MBTA) in Bangalore. Coached by Mose Navarra of Italy and Prahlad Srinath. Has won double crown in ITF junior under-18 tournaments. Believes in playing good tennis and aims to participate in juniors and seniors Grand Slams in the future.

   

Kelsey Sundaram (April 8, 1991; Texas) : A 11th standard student. Coached by her father Meenakshi Sundaram at the Competitive Edge Academy in Chennai. Has won ITF titles in singles and doubles. Strongly believes that she can get into the top 100 within two years. Strong desire is to be together with her whole family.
